interim. WebMail gives you easy access to your email from any web browser
[click on "WebMail" on the bottom of the Math Home Page and then select
"mail.sas" from the drop-down server menu.]

Mail.sas change for Eudora 5.1.3
Make these changes no earlier then the night of January 5th so you can
continue to use your email on hans.math until mail is moved.
In addition to the material below, you might also find the
University of Chicago configuration and IMAP documentation useful.
Mac users:
- Open Eudora
- Go to the Special Menu and select Settings
- Select the Getting Started icon on the left side.
- Under Checking Mail, for mail server:
If you use POP, change the server to
pop.sas.upenn.edu (POP users are recommended to switch to the
newer IMAP protocol).
If you use IMAP, change the server to imap.sas.upenn.edu
- Under Sending Mail, for SMTP server* to to smtp.sas.upenn.edu
- If return address is blank, insert your username@math.upenn.edu
Windows users:
- Open Eudora
- You cannot be in "light"mode to perform the next steps.
To change and see your current mode, go to the Help menu, choose Payment
and Registration. If you are in "light mode", click "sponsored mode"
and continue.
- Go to the Tools menu, and select Personalities. Then select the
personality used with hans.math from configuration window in left pane. If
only one personality (usually named "Dominant") is present, select it.
- Right click on the selected Personality, choose Properties.
- In the Generic Settings tab, change the SMTP server* to smtp.sas.upenn.edu
- On the bottom of the tab, there is a pulldown menu for Secure
Sockets When Sending. Set this to If Available STARTTLS.
- If you use version 5.2 only: You need to make sure the 'Authentication
allowed' box is unchecked.
- If return address is blank, insert yourusername@math.upenn.edu
- Click on the "Incoming Mail" tab:
If you use POP**, change the server to pop.sas.upenn.edu
If you use IMAP, change the server to imap.sas.upenn.edu
If you have to change the server setting for imap, you may be
warned that some local data will be removed. This will only involve locally
cached data most of which will be recreated when you next access the account,
but you may lose some local data such as message status information or
labels. Respond OK.
- Set Secure Sockets When Receiving to "If Available STARTTLS".
- Click on OK to save settings.
- Go to Tools menu and select Mailboxes to return to normal view.
*If you are using email at home and use your internet service provider's
SMTP/outgoing server, you may continue to use it.
POP users who use the option "Leave mail on server" may get mail
duplicates of email the first time downloading due to the
conversion.
