Approaching the University from the West or North, take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to exit 24, the Valley Forge interchange. Take I-76, the Schuylkill Expressway, East approximately 17 miles to exit 40 which is South Street. Turn right onto South Street to enter campus.
From the North, take I-95 South to the Center City Philadelphia exit. Follow signs to I-676 West, the Vine Street Expressway. Take I-676 West until I-76 East. Follow I-76 East until exit 40 --South Street. Turn right onto South Street to enter the campus
From Delaware and points South, take I-95 North to the
I-291/I-76 Philadelphia Exit. As you cross the Platt Bridge follow
signs to I-76 West, the the Schuylkill Expressway. At the light, take
a left continuing to follow the signs to I-76 West. Take I-76 West 3
miles to exit 40-- South Street (exit from left lane). Turn
left onto South Street and then turn right onto 33rd Street (2nd
light). There will be a blinking light about half a block up on the
right hand side, turn right for parking area.
The Math Dept. is located on the South East corner of 33rd and
Walnut Streets, entrance from 33rd street (take the stairway near the
back of the building).
A train leaves the airport every half hour. You should exit the train either at the University City Rail Station [South Street & Convention Avenue (= Spruce St. & 32nd Street) on the east boundary of campus] or at the 30th Street Amtrak Station stop [30th and Market]. The fare is $5.00 and takes 20 minutes. [30th Street Station is about a 10-20-minute walk to campus.]
A metered taxi ride from the airport generally costs about $20.00 including tip and takes about 20 minutes. [There is a fixed-price of $20 (plus tip) from the airport to Center City]
A limousine leaves the airport baggage claim area every 30 minutes for the Penn Tower Hotel which is adjacent to the Penn campus. The ride costs $8.00 and takes about 20 minutes.
If you are driving from the airport, follow signs to I-76 West, the Schuylkill Expressway. Take I-76 West to exit 40 which is South Street. Turn left onto South Street to enter campus ( South Street becomes Spruce Street).
The closest suburban train system, SEPTA, station is University City Rail Station [entrance near 32nd St and South St( = Spruce St.)]. The R1 Airport/Glenside, R2 Wilmington/Warminster and R3 Elwyn/West Trenton trains stop there. This station is only 5 minute walk from the Math. Dept.
To get to campus by public transportation, there is a SEPTA Subway Station located inside the shopping mall. Take the Market-Frankford Line Westbound to 34th and Market Streets. The campus is two blocks south of Market Street at 34th and Walnut Streets. The SEPTA fare is $1.50 (fare is subject to change). Otherwise, a cab can be taken from the bus station to campus.
