The Penn Mathematics Department is located in David Rittenhouse Laboratory (4th floor) at the southeast corner of 33rd and Walnut streets. Entrance from 33rd street, then take the stairway near the back of the building. [map]

By Car

From Southern New Jersey and points East

Take the New Jersey Turnpike South to Exit 3. Bear right out of the toll following signs to Philadelphia and the Walt Whitman Bridge. After crossing the bridge you will be on I-76 West, the Schuylkill Expressway. Follow I-76 West to exit 346A--South Street (exit from left lane). At the top of the ramp turn left onto South Street and at the first corner turn right onto 33rd Street.

From the Northeast via the New Jersey Turnpike South

Use Exit 4. Bear right out of the toll following signs to Philadelphia and Ben Franklin Bridge. After crossing the bridge take I-676 West, to I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. Turn right onto South Street and on the next corner turn right onto 33rd Street.

From the West via the Pennsylvania Turnpike

Approaching the University from the West or North, take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to exit 326, the Valley Forge interchange. Take I-76, the Schuylkill Expressway, East approximately 17 miles to exit 346A which is South Street. Turn right onto South Street and on the next corner turn right onto 33rd Street.

From the North via I-95 South

Use the I-676/Center City Philadelphia Exit. Follow signs to I-676 West, the Vine Street Expressway. Take I-676 West until I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. Take the Schuylkill Expressway East approximately 17 miles to exit 346A which is South Street. Turn right onto South Street and on the next corner turn right onto 33rd Street.

From the South via I-95 North

Use the I-676/Center City Philadelphia Exit which is approximately 7 miles north of the airport. Follow I-676 West, the Vine Street Expressway, until I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. Take the Schuylkill Expressway East approximately 17 miles to exit 346A which is South Street. Turn right onto South Street and on the next corner turn right onto 33rd Street.

From the Airport, Delaware, and points South

Take I-95 North to the I-291/I-76 Philadelphia Exit. As you cross the Platt Bridge follow signs to I-76 West, the the Schuylkill Expressway. At the light, take a left continuing to follow the signs to I-76 West. Take I-76 West 3 miles to exit 346A -- South Street (exit from left lane). Turn left onto South Street and at the next corner turn right onto 33rd Street.

By Airplane

From the Philadelphia International Airport there are many ways to get to the Penn campus.

A train leaves the airport every half hour. You should exit the train either at the University City Rail Station [South Street & Convention Avenue (= Spruce St. & 32nd Street) on the east boundary of campus] or at the 30th Street Amtrak Station stop [30th and Market]. The fare is $7.00 and takes 20 minutes. [Alternate: 30th Street Station is about a 10-20-minute walk to campus.]

A metered taxi ride from the airport generally costs about $30.00 including tip and takes about 20 minutes. [There is a fixed-price of $29 (plus tip) from the airport to Center City]

driving from the airport, follow signs to I-76 West, the Schuylkill Expressway. Take I-76 West to exit 40 which is South Street. Turn left onto South Street to enter campus ( South Street becomes Spruce Street).

By Train

The Amtrak Train Station near campus is located at 30th and Market Streets. The 30th Street Station is a 15-minute walk or about $4-$5 cab ride to campus. One can also take a SEPTA train (see just below) to the University City Rail Station, which is a bit closer.

The closest suburban train system, SEPTA, station is University City Rail Station [entrance near 32nd St and South St( = Spruce St.)]. The R1 Airport/Glenside, R2 Wilmington/Warminster and R3 Elwyn/West Trenton trains stop there. This station is a 7 minute walk from the Math. Dept.

By Bus

The long-distance bus station is located at 10th and Filbert Streets behind the Gallery Shopping Mall.

To get to campus by public transportation, there is a SEPTA Subway Station located inside the shopping mall. Take the Market-Frankford Line Westbound to 34th and Market Streets. The campus is two blocks south of Market Street at 34th and Walnut Streets. The SEPTA fare is $1.50 (fare is subject to change). Otherwise, a cab can be taken from the bus station to campus.
