Other peculiar features

Orientation of the bullet at impact The 1.12 cm long bullet hole on the jacket indicates that the lead bullet impacted the jacket on its side, and the long axis of the bullet formed an angle close to $ 58^{\circ}$ with the horizontal base line of the jacket at impact time.

The long axes of the entrance holes on the shirt and the undershirt are basically vertical. The length of the holes are 2.4 cm and 1.1 cm respectively. Because the characteristic of the textile of the shirt, the bullet holes on the shirt tend to be vertical, irrespective of the impact angle. But the crosswise and longitudinal density of the fabric of the undershirt are the same. So the vertical long axis on the undershirt indicates that the axis of the bullet was close to being vertical when it impacted the undershirt.

The orientation of the bullet changed approximately $ 30^{\circ}$. Suppose the jacket and the undershirt was 3 cm apart, and the velocity of the bullet was 180 m/sec, the estimate according to the CIB. That puts the yawing angular velocity at 500 complete turns per second. Such a yawning angular velocity is comparable to the spinning angular velocity of rifled pistols and revolvers,61clearly way too high.

It should be pointed out, however, that the estimated impact orientation depends on factors such as whether the jacket and the undershirt was folded in the area near the bullet holes.

Distance between bullet holes.

The distance between the entrance and exit holes on Chen's undershirt was 8-9 cm, shorter than the length of the wound, which is 11 cm. No mechanism for causing the above discrepancy has been proposed.

Other damages on the shirt

There are five damaged regions on Chen's dress shirt other than the bullet entrance hole, see 1.2 (9). The CIB and Lee committee do not consider these damaged areas to be caused by the lead bullet.62No explanation has been forthcoming from anyone on this subject. The CIB has thus far offered no plausible explanations about the above peculiar features in the damage patterns on Chen's clothing. In fact the CIB shooting experiment completely ignored these issues.
