The textbook for the course is "Advanced Engineering
Mathematics " (second edition), by Zill and Cullen. We
will cover most of chapters 12-15, 17-18 and parts of chapter
5. See the syllabus.pdf
for more details.
The course grade will be based on the following.
Homework: 10%
Two Midterms:
25% each Final Exam:
40%
Each Thursday I will assign several homework
problems. They will be due the following Friday by 5:00 pm and
should be turned in to your TA.
No late homeworks will be accepted.
Homework counts for 10% of the final grade. The lowest homework
score will be dropped. This is intended to take care of extraordinary
circumstances: I was really sick; the dog ate my homework; I was
abducted by aliens. So you get one break, but that's it.
The core problems from the syllabus.pdf
are a great for extra practice. I might assign some core problems
from time to time, but even if I do not assine a core problem
you should still make sure you can do it.
Midterm 1 is tentatively
scheduled for Monday October 11
Midterm 2 is tentatively
scheduled for Monday November 15
Midterm 2 is now scheduled for Tuesday November 9 in class.
Final Exam is Monday December 20 from 4:00
till 6:00.
Showing up for the exams is the most basic requirement of the
course. If you are not there, you get a zero. If there is an absolutely
unavoidable conflict, you may discuss the matter with me, but
you must do so well in advance.
