The syllabus for this course is *new*: it will cover basic group theory and representation theory.
Detailed Syllabus, Homework: Course materials will be posted on Canvas.
Homework: Weekly homework assignment. No late homework is accepted. The lowest homework score is dropped.
Homework policy: Students are encouraged to work together but homework must be written independently. Students might be asked to present homework problems in class or recitation. The homework is graded for completion.
Midterm policy: No make up midterm will be given. If a note from the Dean's office is provided to justify the absence, the missed midterm will be replaced with the appropriate percentage of the other exams. Exams are closed books and closed notes.
The exams cover the material as covered in class and in the homework assignments; the exams are cumulative.
In the classroom: We use no electronic equipment (laptop, cell phones, etc.).
Grades: Homework (5%), presentations and class participation (5%), three midterm exams (25%, 30%, 40%) (it adds to more than 100…) Each exam is cumulative. Grades will be posted on Canvas.
1. First Midterm: In class, February 14.
2. Second Midterm: In class, March 30.
2. Third Midterm: Tentative: In class, April 25.
