Information on Exam 1 for Math 314, Spring 2019
Exam 1 was held on Monday, Feb. 18. The exam was out of a total of 100 points
(five problems worth 20 points each, with partial credit given).
This exam counts for 15% of the course grade. The next two exams also each count
for 15% of the course grade. Homework counts
for 40% of the course grade, while participation counts for 15%.
The median score on Exam 1 was 88. The cutoffs for the other quartiles were 76 and 97,
with a quarter of the class getting very high scores.
To interpret the numerical scores as letter grades, the following can be used as a
guideline for this exam:
- A+: 98-100
- A: 92-97
- A-: 85-91
- B+ 77-84
- B: 69-76
- B-: 59-68
- C+: 49-58
- C: 39-48
In computing the course grades, the numerical scores on exams will be used, in
conjunction with the letter grade guidelines. As a result, for example, a
high B+ on this exam will count for almost as much as a low A- (and similarly for the
other cut-offs).
Individual grade information is available on Canvas.
