Galois Semester at MSRI: Notes and Videos

Lecture notes and streaming video are available for the workshop talks that were given during the program on Galois groups and fundamental groups that was held at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) in Berkeley during the second half of 1999. The program ran from August 9 until late December, and the organizing committee consisted of Eva Bayer, Michael Fried, David Harbater (Chairman), Yasutaka Ihara, B. Heinrich Matzat, Michel Raynaud, and John Thompson.

The workshops were as follows:

An intensive two-week introductory workshop at MSRI beginning August 16, 1999. This event was an AMS von Neumann Symposium on Arithmetic Fundamental Groups and Noncommutative Algebra, held in conjunction with the concurrent Non-Commutative Algebra program at MSRI.

Two one-week workshops on current developments on Galois groups and fundamental groups in October, 1999:

(a) Week 1 (October 4-8) concerned constructive Galois theory (broadly construed).

(b) Week 2 (October 11-15) concerned Galois actions and geometry.

Notes and streaming video for the workshop talks are available via the above links.
