Prof. DeTurck and I strongly suggest that you work together. The more honest you are about writing your own work and citing your collaboration, the more flexible I will be on what constitutes cheating. There is no penalty for writing ''I worked with Joe the geometer and Ally the analyst'' at the beginning of a problem. Generally, if you can write up your solution without copying directly from your scratch work, then you understand the solution.
On recitation: I plan to mix reviewing key ideas from lecture with discussion-based problem solving. The latter will involve the class presenting problems on the board. The person at the board will lead the discussion, and any students who have ideas or issues with the presentation (by which I mean questions or suggestions) can politely interject. I hope to serve as a restoring force when needed.
If you have specific homework problems you would like to see discussed in recitation, please try to email me by noon the day of your recitation. Your emails will give me a sense of what ideas need reviewed and where you are as a class.
