Ordinary Differential Equations

Course description:
This course will cover linear and nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Specific topics: solutions of linear equations (exact solution, and solution by power series), Laplace transform, nonlinear equations, and stability of linear and nonlinear systems.

Syllabus:
Chapters 1-4: Linear equations (quick review).
Chapter 5: Solution by power series.
Chapter 6: Laplace transform.
Chapter 7: Systems of first order linear equations.
Chapter 9: Nonlinear equations and stability.

Exams:
Midterm I: February 5, 1999, in class
Midterm II: March 19, 1999, in class
Final Exam: May 3, 1999, 11:00-1:00, room DRL 4C2

Grading:
Each midterm: 20 percent
Final exam: 30 percent
Homework: 30 percent
