Michael's Pictures

I know this collection is extremely small, but if you are viewing it then it means you probably know me. Since you know me, there is a chance that you have photos of me in jpg, gif, or bmp format. Please send them to me, because I always jump at the chance to make my webpage less pathetic.

This is the best existing online picture of me. I don't have the good fortune to be very photogenic, so this is all there is. I swear I look much better in person. Incidentally, this picture can also be found via some link off of the math department webpage.

This is a picture of me with my friend Brandi in Times Square in New York. This was right after we had seen the broadway play "Proof" by Walter Kerr, an excellent drama/comedy about mathematicians. The fact that it was about mathematicians made an already incredible play even better, naturally. The photographer is Brandi's friend Betty Anne Acuff.

The person in focus in this particular picture is my friend Andy Robinson, a guy I've known for a very long time and my roomate for my first two years of college. Incidentally, he roomed with me for two years and then left NC State. No comment. I am actually in this picture (top left), but I'm somewhat cropped out. Just enjoy the view of Andy. This picture was taken so long ago I can't remember the photographer. But I do still have the T-shirt.

This is a picture of most of my very best friends. Left to right, we have Paul Irwin, who I've known since I was in 6th grade. He is the only man that can quote as many (if not more) arcane movie references than I can. He graduated from Davidson with his degree in German, and is now closing in on the second half of a two-year stint in Japan.

Next is Nic, the Comrade. "The Comrade" is a drinking buddy nickname that he got after we spent a lot of time enjoying Russia's most precious export. Nic races his Miata professionally, and if you have a mechanical problem with your car he is the best person in the Raleigh area to talk to, provided your car is an import. God help you if you own an American car!

Third from the left (somewhat obscured) is Alex, Nic's brother. Alex graduated from Duke after spending a year at the London School of Economics. He lives in Raleigh with Nic. If you are feeling particularly suicidal, challenge Alex to a long distance footrace. We used to be on the cross country team together in high school and he would routinely finish so far ahead of me that I lost track of him during the race. Paul is also a crazy running fiend, and actually ran on the Davidson track team during the rare years when he was in this country.

Of course, you recognize Andy in the foreground. Andy was my roomate for the first two years at State. Living for two years with me is enoguh to drive anybody crazy, so he promptly transferred to UNC. He is out of Chapel Hole now and working in Raleigh.

You may notice a bright source of light that appears to be coming almost from my body. I do glow on occasion; it is one of my super powers. That and the ability to appear in every picture wearing the same tee shirt enable me to take on evildoers everywhere. I no longer have the shirt, though, which significantly hurts my chances at becoming the next Batman.
