– Homework
Homework will not be graded, but it is highly recommended that you do all of the core problems. The way to learn mathematics is to work problems—do not expect to do well in the course without doing the homework. Simply looking at the solutions is not a substitute for having worked, or at least tried and struggled with, the problems! If you have questions about the homework, feel free to ask in recitation or office hours.
Selected solutions
- Section 10.3: problem 45, problem 46
- Section 10.4: problem 17c
- Section 13.3: problem 49, problems 51 and 53
– Quizzes
Quizzes will be given during recitation, at the end of each class. Each quiz will focus on material from the previous week's lecture. Quizzes will be graded and returned the following week in recitation. Except for extraordinary circumstances, there will be no make-up quizzes. However, the lowest two quiz grades for each student will be dropped. In other words, you can miss up to two quizzes without penalty. If you are keeping up with the homework, quizzes should not pose major challenges.
