Homework 1
Due at recitation section, Jan 29-31, 2008
Answer the two following questions with as much honesty and insight as you can muster (maximum one paragraph per question).

(1) Name any mathematician you have heard of, and describe any mathematical result you know about. If necessary, have recourse to your memories of high school math. If you can't think of any, say so. Do not do research for this question. And please do not fall back on physics or physicists (Galileo, Newton, Einstein).

(2) Describe as best you can your own attitude towards mathematics. What do you think about math? What feelings does it evoke in you? If you have negative feelings, can you figure out where they come from?
