Course Description
Course Outline: This is the second semester of an
introductory abstract algebra sequence. We will cover Rings, Modules, Fields, and the Sylow theorems. Time permitting, we may also touch on Galois theory and group representation theory.

Grading:
Midterm (takehome), week after Spring break - 20 percent
Final (takehome) - last week of class, 30 percent
Homework - 50 percent
Homework: Homework problems will be assigned each
Wednesday and made available on this web page. They will be due the
following Friday at the beginning of class. Late homework will
not be accepted. Group-work is encouraged, but write-ups must be
done individually.
Exams: There will be one takehome midterm in March, and
a takehome final at the end of the semester.
