Homework 2
The last problem on this homework set was to describe a real life situation which would produce the payoff matrix of
the rock paper scissors game. Here are some excerpts from the
solutions which were submitted, in no special order:
- ``Imagine having a drink with a friend of yours when an individual of the opposite sex sits down across from
you. Naturally, the first thing that crosses your mind is ``Are they cute?!". You want to discuss this person's level of
attractivenes with your friend, but you don't want to look like a fool. What should you say...."
- ``Two players are best friends, and the activities they like to do together are studying, playing soccer and
dancing."
- ``Two countries are at war and each chooses between building a battle cruiser, a destroyer or a submarine."
- ``Two companies are trying to price the same product."
- ``An attacking army chooses whether to launch an air based, naval based or ground based attack against
a defending army."
- ``Two students have to decide whether to come to their study session underprepared, prepared or
overprepared."
- ``How should students in Van Pelt negotiate stealing a space, asking for a space or pretending
a space is free."
- ``Two students have to decide which of three marathons to run to make the best time."
- ``An interviewer and and interviewee have several options about when to show up for an interview."
- ``A student is waiting for a bus, and has different feelings about when the bus arrives."
- ``Haggling at a flew market can be seen as a rock paper scissors game.."
- ``Tom and Jerry are two men who are both interested in
dating a lovely lady named Jennifer..."
