Text: W. Strauss, Partial Differential Equations: an introduction, 2nd Ed.

Homework: There will be weekly homework assignments collected each Thursday. Assignments will be announced in class and posted on the course web page.  No late homework is accepted. The lowest homework grade will be dropped.

Exams: There will be a midterm exam and a cumulative final. You are not allowed to use calculators or any other kind of technology during an exam, you won't need it. There are no makeup exams.   The exams are scheduled for:

Midterm
Thursday, March 5th  (in class)

Final
Friday, May 8th (9-11 am)
Grading:  Your grade will be calculated as follows:

Homework
20%
Midterm
30%
Final
50%

In addition, if you have above an 80% average on homework, then your final grade will not be lower than your score on the final exam.  You must take the final exam to pass the class.

Grade changes:   If you wish to have a grade changed on the midterm exam you must submit, in writing, a specific explanation of why the problem was incorrectly graded and  turn  your explanation and your exam back to the professor within 3 weeks (21 days) of the exam.  After this time no changes will be considered.  You may ask me or your TA to explain why you lost the points but the only way to change the grade is to submit the exam back in writing.  Please also check blackboard often to ensure that your scores have been recorded correctly.

Office Hours:
I actually enjoy it when you come to office hours. It  makes my lectures much better if I can  see which concepts you are having difficulty with.   Everything in  this course should be explained to you in a logical clear way so you should always know why the next step follows from the last. If you do not understand something please ask a question.
