We will discuss the proof of Gromov's theorem that a sufficiently almost flat manifold is finitely covered by a nilmanifold. While the proof is quite technical, many of the ideas are approximations of the proof of Bieberbach theorem for flat manifolds.  We will discuss these parallels in the ideas of short homotopies and controlled holonomy. Finally we will look at an extension of the theorem by Ruh.
