Bi-College Math Colloquium

Monday, November 15, 2021 - 4:00pm

Bryn Mawr College

Park Science Building, Room 338

Tea will precede the talk at 3:30 p.m. in the Math Lounge, Park Science Building, Room 361

In this talk I will start by explaining how to view a group as a metric space via its Cayley graph. We will then count the number of vertices in a ball of radius n in these spaces. We will be particularly interested in groups where this count is exponential, for example free groups. I'll also mention joint work with Thomas Ng and Kasia Jankeiwicz about the exponential growth rate of groups acting on `CAT(0) cube complexes'.
