The moduli space of curves, an algebraic variety whose points correspond to algebraic curves of a given genus, is a fundamental object and the source of many open problems. Certain aspects of its geometry are captured by natural vector bundles defined on them. These vector bundles arise from representations of a particular class of vertex operator algebras. In this talk I will discuss these objects, including what we know and what we still hope to learn.
