The secant varieties to the Veronese embedding of projective space give a nice stratification only in the simplest case (the rational normal curve). In higher dimensions, a better stratification comes from considering Betti numbers of asssociated Gorenstein rings. By using a Bridgeland stability condition, we are able to get an even nicer stratification by "generalized" secant varieties. This is joint work with Brooke Ullery.
