Given t, an imaginary quadratic integer of large enough absolute value, Ziegler found all solutions of X3 − tX2Y − (t + 1)XY 2 − Y 3 = µ, where µ is a root of unity and X, Y are algebraic integers in Q(t). This week, we will delve into the proof of Ziegler’s result using algebraic number theory and some complex analysis.
