Vibration of flexible bodies

[Work done as a part of B.Tech project at IIT Kharagpur]

Part I: In the first part of the project we studied the stability of flow over flexible surfaces. We linearized the Navier Stoke's equations and thus studied the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Orr-Sommerfeld equation using numerical techniques to determine the critical Reynold's number.

Part II: In this part of the project we studied the short-period dynamics and stability of a flexible missile under various forces acting on it during its flight.

In this project we made theoretical and computational analysis of the various modes and frequencies of vibration of a rotating annular disk (inspired by rotating data storage devices) and the effect of adding radial stiffeners to the disk.

A Study on Rolling of a Generalised Body on a Flat Plane

[Done as an undergraduate term project]

In this project we studied the dynamics of rolling of a generalized convex 3D body on a flat plane without any slipping between the body and the surface using methods of Analytical mechanics. We set up the non-linear differential equations governing the motion of such a body and consequently performed simulations.

A study on Film Boiling using coupled Level Set and CLSVOF

In this project we studied the process of Film Boling under various conditions. CFD simulations were made using a coupled Level Set and CLSVOF methods for computing the two-phase flow in Film Boiling.
