Course Calendar

This is a tentative schedule that will change as we go through the class. The class may at times progress faster or slower than the estimate.

You should mainly be concerned with the homework which will be assigned everyday and the lesson plan for the next day which you might find helpful to read through before you come to class. I will also post announcements about the class etc. here. Please check this page regularly.

The sections indicated are from the textboook Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, Goode & Annin, Third Edition.

This page is updated everyday. Refresh the page so you know you're looking at the latest version of the page.
Week 1

Thu-July 3rd
Homework:

Section 2.1:
T/F review 4 5 6 7 9. Look at the text for some of the thiings I didn't define.

Read the sections 2.1 2.2 2.3. Make sure you have the 'skills' listed at the start of the exercises for each section.
For extra fun, try to prove the product rule for matrix multiplication.

If you don't have a lot of experience with matric multiplication, you should practice. Write out your own matrices and try multiplying them. To check http://www.bluebit.gr/matrix-calculator/matrix_multiplication.aspx

These are slightly more detailed solutions for the odd numbered problems from the book. (The answers are at the back of the book.)  http://www.mtsac.edu/~sguth/goode/
I'll provide answers for the even numbered problems in the homework from tomorrow. Please use these judiciously, only to check your work.

We didn't start 4.6 in class yet. A basis for a vector space is a set of vectors that is both independent and a spanning set for the vector space. Try to see how far you can get with the questions from 4.6 with that. We'll discuss 4.6 in class on Monday.

We'll have review sessions in class from 1:3 on Saturday and Sunday. Come with questions and come early.

Midterm: Old exams  are here: http://www.math.upenn.edu/ugrad/calc/m240/oldexams.html  Try to solve problems here that you recognize. Another source is problems from the book that were not on the homework. The exam will have mostly standard questions like the quiz and a couple of slightly harder questions.
