We will conclude our introductory remarks about Grassmann manifolds and Schubert cell decompositions, and prove the existence and uniqueness of Stiefel-Whitney classes.  Then the following Tuesday, February 5, we will discuss oriented bundles and Euler classes, following Milnor-Stasheff Chapter 9, with lectures by the seminar participants.
