Both Gromov-Witten and Donaldson-Thomas theory are well-known curve counting theories. We recall their definitions, some basic facts, and how to think about them. The goal of the talk is to sketch the rough structure of the proof of the correspondence of GW- and DT-theory on toric three-folds and convey some ideas and techniques essential to the proof.
