In this talk, I will introduce Donaldson-Thomas invariants, which are roughly counting curves in threefolds via counting 1-dimensional subschemes. After some motivation from physics, I will define DT invariants with some basic examples. Time permitting, I will discuss how (geometric) representation theory can help in computing DT invariants.
