In this talk I will present a beautiful argument of Xavier Cabré, which applies the method of moving planes to prove the classical isoperimetric inequality for smooth Euclidean domains. I will then discuss a recent paper by Simon Brendle, which uses the ideas of this argument to prove an isoperimetric inequality on minimal submanifolds of Euclidean space.
