This is our experimental Geometry-Topology "Show and Tell" Seminar, in which faculty talk about some of their current projects.

The classification of defects in translationally-ordered media is complicated by the interactions between rotations and translations.  I will discuss an approach to study defect structures in three-dimensional smectics. We find that defects are, in some ways, much richer than those in three-dimensional nematics. (Joint work with Hillel Aharoni, Yi-Chen Hu, and Thomas Machon).
