In this talk I will survey some results in Sasaki-Einstein geometry. Sasakian geometry is a particular kind of contact geometry that has been useful in constructing Einstein metrics of positive Ricci curvature. Then we will go "beyond" and I will discuss how a generalized contact geometric framework might look from the viewpoint of generalized geometry as initiated by Hitchin and Gualtieri.
