This talk will be an introduction to A infinity-structures as introduced by Jim Stasheff. We will use the transport problem as a fundamental motivation for replacing the structure of an associative algebra by a more flexible one. We will see how this homotopy-associative structure appears naturally on loop spaces, recognizes loop space homotopy types, solves the transport problem and provides a conceptually clear context for Massey products.
