Abstract: I will describe constructions of invariants for three- and four-manifolds, developed in collaboration with Zoltan Szabo. These invariants build on ideas from the theory of holomorphic disks (Langrangian Floer homology), and can be used to obtain a number of theorems about the topology of three- and four-manifolds. I will focus mainly on three-dimensional applications of these invariants.
