Come to recitations ready to participate. Students will work together, either with the class as a whole or in small groups and do problems on the board. I will not be doing all of the writing! The only way to truly understand mathematics is by doing it yourself, and the absolute best way to learn it is by working with your peers. I plan on writing on the board myself to highlight and review important concepts, but then once we get to problems I want everyone to step in and help. There will be no quizzes so we will have the entire 50 minutes to do some hands-on mathematics. There will be grades for participation/attendance, so make sure to show up and put some effort. Don't be afraid of making mistakes! Mistakes during the recitations have no effect on your recitation grades. The goal is to get everyone involved and have everyone learning during class.
There are lots of great resources available for assistance with math:
Math/Maple and Sunday Night Review Schedule
There are reviews on Sunday evenings in DRL for each calculus course as well as math help sessions on Monday-Thursday evenings around campus and online help available after that. If you just have a few questions this will be helpful but if you need extended time of one-on-one assistance you should go to office hours.
Tutoring Center
Penn offers free tutors as well.
